Welcome to Presidio Jazz Lab!
Presidio Jazz Lab grew out of a weekly gathering of musical friends in the Presidio of San Francisco to enjoy and experiment with classic jazz from the 1950’s, 60’s, and 70’s. Familiar tunes from the Great American Songbook by Gershwin, Porter and Kern; hard-bop tunes by Horace Silver, Hank Mobley, and Clifford Brown; more modern compositions by Wayne Shorter and Bill Evans, among others.
The regular weekly sessions provided an ideal environment to challenge ourselves and take musical risks. They also gave us time to gel into a cohesive unit and inspired us to bring in compositions of our own.
Today we perform at private events and public venues in small-combo formats of four to six players that include piano, bass, drums, guitar, sax & flute, and trumpet. It’s a configuration large enough to create rich harmonies and a variety of musical textures yet small enough to foster experimentation and play.
Our members have a wealth of performance experience in venues around the San Francisco Bay Area as well as in Europe and Japan. We bring polished arrangements and a warm musical camaraderie to any event we play.
We hope you’ll contact us to discuss how we might help enliven your venue or event in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area.
